Alaska - Majestic

I haven't gotten around to posting some of the pictures from my Alaska trip from early in the month but now I am. Codi and the kids are off on vacation and I will be joining them soon. As for my trip it was absolutely amazing, apparently when I was there it was the hottest day of the summer a whopping 71 degrees. The sun stayed up until around 1130 in the evening and rose again around 6. My sleeping was at a minimum to say the least. I think one of the only words I can use to describe Alaska for those who have never been is simply majestic. Breathtaking and unbelievable are a few others come to mind, but simply put...majestic. I hope you agree.

Heading South towards Indian Point

Still heading towards Indian Point

This is heading North towards Palmer...they used to pan for gold in the area pretty heavily.

While I was there I also have a chance to go to a Musk Ox farm and to go by the Anchorage, AK Temple. Little known fact about the Musk Ox...they don't produce an odor and they are not an ox...they are actually part of the goat family and only have two stomachs and not four like the bovine family.

The Musk Ox farm just North of Palmer...these guys were pretty cool. Their under fur or tuft is used to produce Keiviet which is softer than cashmere and much more expensive, but it is so warm.

The Temple is much more beautiful than these picture give it credit. The Stake center next to it is still under construction...people have either tried to burn it down or destroy it while in the construction phase. However, they have done nothing to hurt the Temple.

More to come once I am in Alaska at the end of the month for my assignment.

It's Electric (boogey, oogey, oogey)

This past week has been crazy and EXPENSIVE as we do our final planning, shopping, packing, and over-all preparation for our trip to Tahoe! The kids all earned their points (chore chart stuff) to get the desires of their little hearts! Chaz finally got the DS Lite he has been BEGGING for since last April. Aedan earned the new Vtech Cyber Pocket game system. Poor Gavin gets the hand-me-down "My First LeapPad", but he got a new "Cars" cartridge and booklet and he will be the "master" of the 5-in-1 joystick game in the van. To be honest, these were not only because the kids earned the points, but because we hope this will make the 3 days car ride to Tahoe and 3 day car ride home a bit easier. The fact that we can watch movies in the van just isn't as cool as it once was (if only they had done car trips when I was a kid - no movies and the FIRST GameBoy came to our family when I was a teenager!).

Here is the day after we got the new stuff. It was a good day to have it because that was "Tropical Storm Edouard" day. Although it wasn't as big a deal as people thought it might be - it was still rainy.
